Recently, I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Craig McCullough of the Austinist.com, a very fine locally-oriented site whose ist-ilk have cropped up in most major cities with any significant amount of culture on which to report (as well as Los Angeles). If you missed the media blitz, and you haven't yet read our high-larious goings on, go ahead and click here.
But why, you may ask, is Craig a superhero? Well, Craig works for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. He helps manage their money, to make sure there's enough to send checks to all those silver-haired abecedaries who've long since hung up their slide rules and dunce caps. My own grandmother is a retired Texas teacher, and on a recent trip to San Antonio she even remarked how her TRS check is always substantially more than her social security. She said she needs it to live. (And to keep renewing my gift subscription to National Geographic, no doubt.) I told her what Craig does and she said, "Well, tell him he's doing a good job."
Yeah. Or send him to Washington.
P.S. Mr. McCullough's interview is actually a follow-up to his review
of my novel, The Bow Tie Gang, which can be read here.
